Season 1, Episode 1

Wednesday's Child is Full of Woe

Greeting the New Roommates (19:41)

The door clicks as Marilyn opens the door and enters the dorm room.

"Marilyn Thornhill"

Good evening, girls! Oh, sorry about the mud. Wanted to make sure that Wednesday was… settling in.

Marilyn pauses, looking down at the crack in the floor that's evidently dividing the two new roommates. She adjusts how she's standing, planting her mud-caked bright red boots on either side of the crack. She's cradling a flowerpot with a black flower inside in her arms.

"Marilyn Thornhill"

…Is this a bad time?

Marilyn walks in, approaching the girls.

"Marilyn Thornhill"

I'm Miss Thornhill, your dorm mom. Apologies I wasn't here to greet you when you arrived. I trust Enid has given you the old Nevermore welcome~

Wednesday Addams

She's been smothering me with hospitality. I hope to return the favor. …In her sleep.

Enid casts a glance at Wednesday and Marilyn blinks at her off-putting comment. She chuckles nervously.

"Marilyn Thornhill"

…Well…

Marilyn reaches out her arms to hand Wednesday the flower.

"Marilyn Thornhill"

Here's a little welcome gift from my conservatory. I try to match the right flower to each of my girls. And when I read your personal statement in your application, I immediately thought of this one.

Wednesday Addams

A Black Dahlia.

"Marilyn Thornhill"

Oh, you know it?

Wednesday Addams

Of course. It's named after my favorite unsolved murder.

Wednesday Addams

Thank you.

"Marilyn Thornhill"

Okey dokey. Well, before I leave, I want to go over a few house rules. Lights off at 10, no loud music, and no boys. Ever.

Wednesday Addams

What's the story about going into the local town?

"Marilyn Thornhill"

Passes to Jericho are a privilege, not a right. It's a brisk 25 minute walk or there's a shuttle on the weekends. The locals are a tad bit wary about Nevermore, so please, don't go making any waves or perpetuating any… outcast stereotypes. That means keep your claws to yourself, and no smothering people in their sleep. Are we clear?

Silence. Marilyn shrugs and smiles.

"Marilyn Thornhill"

Great talk!

With a giggle, Marilyn turns to leave. She turns back and waves goodbye, smiling as she steps out the door.

Laurel's debut appearance!

Overhearing Wednesday's Performance (41:38)

A venus flytrap snaps shut as "Marilyn" drops a worm into its maw. Before she can feed another one to its side, she pauses, overhearing the cover of "Paint It, Black" by The Rolling Stones that Wednesday is playing on her cello. She sighs, then smiles as she gingerly drops the other worm into the waiting flytrap.
